The Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential is a license issued by one of the 54 states or territories of the that authorizes the holder to practice as a certified public accountant in that jurisdiction. Licensing of CPAs helps to protect the public because only those individuals who have met prescribed requirements are permitted to hold themselves out to the public as certified public accountants.

Since its inception, some 55,000 members have successfully completed the CPA Program and enrolments continue to rise – evidence of the quality of CPA Program and the acceptance by employer groups of the importance and quality of the CPA designation. One part of the licensing requirement that serves to protect the public interest by helping to ensure that only qualified individuals become licensed as Certified Public Accountants is the Uniform CPA Certification.

The CPA Program has been designed by academics and industry experts to ensure that it provides a practical, up-to-date, postgraduate approach to business studies. To make sure the CPA Program remains at the forefront of professional business education a Professional Education Board (PEB) has been established to oversee its ongoing development for relevance and quality.
