The CEOE program is criterion referenced and competency based. A criterion-referenced test is designed to measure a candidate’s knowledge and skills in relation to an established standard of competency (criterion) rather than in relation to the performance of other candidates.

The tests included in the CEOE program are criterion referenced and competency based. A criterion-referenced test is designed to measure a candidate’s knowledge and skills in relation to an established standard of competency (criterion) rather than in relation to the performance of other candidates.
The test competencies upon which test content is based were derived from the Oklahoma Full Subject-Matter Competencies as well as significant emerging national standards from subject matter knowledge and skills of entry-level educators. All competencies were reviewed by committees of Oklahoma educators.

The CEOE program includes the following categories of tests.

  • The Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET) is designed to examine and assess competency in areas associated with general studies and education in liberal arts and sciences. The OGET is distinctive from many other examinations of this type in that critical thinking skills, as well as basic skills are assessed.

  • The Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT) is designed to assess subject-matter knowledge and skills. These examinations include 38 general subject tests, 5 vocational tests, and 4 administrator tests.
  • The Oklahoma Professional Teaching Exam (OPTE) is designed to assess professional knowledge and skills needed by entry-level educators. Candidates are assessed with respect to learners and the learning environment, instruction and assessment, and professional involvement.
