Certification Examination for Entry Level Respiratory Therapists (CRT) is designed to objectively measure essential tasks required of entry level respiratory therapists.

The NBRC is a member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance  and its examination programs are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Individuals enrolled in accredited respiratory care education programs may apply for and attempt the CRT Examination 30 days prior to actual graduation.

The National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. (NBRC) is a voluntary health certifying board created in 1960 to evaluate the professional competence of respiratory therapists and pulmonary technologists. The NBRC cooperates with respiratory care and pulmonary technology educational programs, evaluates the qualifications of candidates for certification and registration, and maintains a directory of those credentialed.

The examination consists of 160 multiple-choice questions (140 scored questions and 20 pretest questions) distributed among three major content areas: patient data, equipment and therapeutic procedures. Candidates will be given three hours to complete the Entry Level CRT Examination.
