The associate credential is designed for IT professionals beginning to work with Oracle. Typically, OCAs will already have acquired the foundation of knowledge for their work as Web administrators, database administrators and developers.

Earning your Oracle Certified Associate credential as a beginning IT professional will give you recognition for your foundation of knowledge using Oracle technologies. This recognition will differentiate you from those without any credentials, and can help you build your career by obtaining access to entry-level opportunities.

The OCA tier was designed to provide for an entry-level DBA certification designation for the Oracle9i platform. Information Technology professionals with little or no Oracle experience can obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to break into the highly lucrative and challenging Oracle profession.

The skills obtained from completing this certification track will allow the candidate to participate on Oracle-related projects acting as junior-level DBAs. Typically, a senior-level DBA will work closely to assign appropriate DBA tasks to strengthen existing skills, and challenge them to learn slightly more advanced procedures.

Oracle views the OCA credential as an appropriate starting point for techies early in their careers. It is the stepping-stone to starting a successful career as an Oracle professional. The Oracle9i Certified Associate (OCA) requires passing two exams:
