Retaking the Exam

If a retake is necessary due to failure of an examination, you must register with a jurisdiction licensing authority following the steps indicated in the section of this book entitled, "Arranging To Take the NPTE." This varies by jurisdiction. However, FSBPT will only allow you to take the examination a maximum of three times in any 12-month period.

Between March 1, 2005 and March 1, 2006 some candidates may be allowed to test 4 times in a 12-month period. This is only the case if the candidates began their testing cycle when the FSBPT rule regarding testing was still 4 times in a 12-month period. These candidates are “grandfathered” so that they will be able to have a 4th attempt.
