ACCUPLACER tests are designed to provide placement, advisement, and guidance information for students entering institutions of higher education. These tests are developed by The College Board, with the help of committees of college faculty, to provide information about the student's level of skill and accomplishment in reading, writing, English and mathematics.

The purpose of ACCUPLACER tests is to provide you with useful information about your academic skills in math, English, and reading. ACCUPLACER determines which courses are appropriate for the student and whether remedial classes are needed.
The ACCUPLACER exam is a Computerized Placement Test (CPT) that is an important part of your entrance requirements. The CPT is an adaptive assessment of your algebra skills. This means that the computer determines which questions will be asked based on your answers to the previous questions. The exam is untimed so you can spend as much time on any question as you wish, but you can not return to a question once you have verified your answer.

ACCUPLACER presents the tests in a computer-adaptive mode and scores are available immediately after testing. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors and counselors to determine your course selection.

ACCUPLACER assesses students' skill levels in English and mathematics to help determine which courses they should start. Each student takes tests in Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, and Arithmetic; some students will also be required to take the Elementary Algebra test. After completing the ACCUPLACER test and receiving your scores, you will meet with an advisor to discuss your results and plan your next steps.
